WHAT IS RUSH?
|
 |
Rush
is the period during every semester when we open up our chapter
to the recruitment of new members. During this time individuals
who may be interested in our organization are invited to learn
more about us through formal meetings and presentations, and by
having the opportunity to really feel what being a Theta sibling
is like through participation in our social activities and by
interacting with our siblings on a one-on-one basis. |
|
DO I HAVE TO BE A MINORITY TO
JOIN? |
 |
NO. Theta Delta Sigma seeks to unite men and women of all
cultural backgrounds Although, we are a multicultural-interest
organization we do not exclusive to minorities and welcome
anyone regardless of their cultural background, ethnicity, or
race. |
|
WHAT IS A BID? HOW DO I GET ONE? |
 |
A
"bid" is a formal invitation to join our chapter. If you attend
one '1' informational meeting, and any three '3' of our rush
events you may be invited to attend an interview. Once, your
interview is complete and you are selected you will receive your
bid and be invited to take part in our pledge class. Not
everyone who comes to rush or interviews will be guaranteed a
bid. |
|
WILL PLEDGING THETA AFFECT MY
GRADES? |
 |
Many
people believe that when a person pledges their grades will
suddenly drop. However, Theta Delta Sigma emphasizes the
importance of Academic Achievement and Excellence and thus hosts
required study hours. So, yes pledging Theta can positively
affect your grades. |
|
I'M A LITTLE UNSURE ABOUT THIS
"RUSH" THING? IF I COME TO RUSH DO I HAVE TO PAY AND DO I HAVE
TO JOIN? |
 |
Absolutely not. It is totally understandable to be a little
unsure about whether to join a Greek organization. However, we
strongly encourage you to come out to a Rush event. This gives
you the opportunity to meet the members and determine if Theta
Delta Sigma is a good fit for you. All of our rush events are
FREE. So, that means you don't have to spend any money to make
your decision. |
|
DOES BEING IN THETA TAKE UP A LOT
OF TIME? |
 |
The
amount of time you devote to Theta is really determined by you.
Participating in any worthwhile activity always requires an
investment of one's time. Research has shown that involved
college students are more likely to graduate. Also, they report
greater satisfaction with their college experience. Time
management is an essential facet of collegiate life. Through
society involvement, Theta Delta Sigma members learn how to
balance their academic work, campus involvement, and social
commitments. |
|
I ALREADY HAVE FRIENDS, WHY
SHOULD I BUY SOME? |
 |
Theta Delta Sigma fosters a relationship much deeper than
friendship, but we recognize the importance of friends and a
life outside the society. We encourage our members to join
student clubs and participate in other extra-curricular
activities. Life is all about experiences, not just those
experiences within Theta. Joining any organization, whether it's
a student club, the football team, or the chess club means
paying fees. All organizations have operating costs. Theta Delta
Sigma is no different. They pay for siblinghood retreats, social
events, and other functions of the organization. Theta does not
profit from any fees. In fact, we can't because we are a
non-profit organization. |
|
I'VE HEARD BAD THINGS HAPPEN
DURING PLEDGING. |
 |
Every Greek letter organization has developed a reputation in
regards to their pledge program. Often, the negative reputations
that some organizations have place a stigma on all organization.
We believe the purpose of pledging is to help stimulate a bond
between the members of a pledge class and the siblings that have
already been initiated. It is a challenge and a commitment
during which trust is placed in both the pledges and the
siblings. Subsequently, we do not mentally, physically or
emotionally degrade our pledges. To do so would work against the
ties of loyalty, allegience and dedication that we aim to create |
|
I AM INTERESTED, CAN MY
SIGNIFICANT OTHER JOIN TOO? |
 |
Being that Theta Delta Sigma is a coed organization it may be
natural for many couples to want to pledge together. However,
being that we are a 'siblinghood' relationships of that nature
are generally discouraged. Ultimately, if both of you rush Theta
and are both given bids to pledge then that decision is up to
you. |
|
WHAT
IS EXPECTED OF THE "TYPICAL" THETA SIBLING? |
 |
There is no "typical" Theta sibling. Theta Delta Sigma was
created to recognize differences and thus we are not looking for any
specific type. Siblinghood is not a mold for people to fit into.
Nor does it make each member who they are. Each sibling
contributes their talent, idealism, devotion and energies to the
greater organization, giving our siblinghood the character it
has today. We hope that each individual will change our society,
helping it to grow and evolve. |
